hi there,
My name is Michelle and I am a creative conservationist.
Through the lens of a camera — and accompanying reflections — I hope to promote appreciation and awareness of the remarkable ecosystems of South Vancouver Island and the ongoing efforts to safeguard their existence for future generations.
I am a second-generation settler of mixed ancestry living and creating on the traditional and unceded territories of the W̱SÁNEĆ peoples, represented by the W̱JOȽEȽP (Tsartlip), BOḰEĆEN (Pauquachin), SȾÁUTW̱ (Tsawout), W̱SIḴEM (Tseycum) and MÁLEXEȽ (Malahat) Nations; as well as the traditional and unceded territories of the the lək ̓ʷəŋən peoples, represented by the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations. As a guest on this unceded land, I am committed to continuous learning while centering the voices and lived experiences of indigenous communities, land stewards, knowledge keepers, and educators. I seek to foster respectful and collaborative partnerships that prioritize the principles of reconciliation, decolonization, and indigenous sovereignty.
